I frequently eat at the Old Country Buffet on Roosevelt Blvd. in Philadelphia, and occasionally at other locations.
Like most restaurant chains, Old Country Buffet has the advantage of consistency. Although I suppose there are some regional variations, in my experience the selections at each restaurant have been pretty much the same; so you're less likely to be surprised (either happily or otherwise) after the first visit.
Unlike some buffets, you won't be surprised by the tab at the end of your meal, either. You pay on the way in, eat all you want, and that's that. This is unlike some buffets charge extra for soft drinks or certain meals. As many times as I've eaten at OCB, I can't remember the prices offhand, probably because I usually bring people with me and pay for everyone at once. But I think it's something like $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children. It's very reasonable, I know that much.
As for the food, it's standard buffet fare: various chicken dishes, seafood, Italian-style dishes, pizza, steak or roast beef, regional specialties, and so forth. They also have exceptionally good salad bars and extensive dessert selections (including low-cal, low-fat, low-sugar, etc.). Most of what I've tried, I've liked. They do have a rule that they enforce about children under 10 requiring supervision while serving themselves, which really isn't a bad idea.
My recommendation? OCB is an excellent alternative to fast-food places that provides better food at lower prices.
